About the Unit
DREAM + REALIZE
Klabin’s formula for extraordinary results.
The Puma Unit reinforces Klabin’s commitment to best sustainability practices by combining high forest productivity, low operating costs, efficient logistics and last-generation environmental technology for treating wastewater and air emissions. The unit will also make the company energy self-sufficient. Combined with Klabin’s vocation for making paper and packaging, the new mill effectively launches a new cycle of growth for the company and of development for the region. It represents our capacity to dream and realize.
Together we dream of the future. Today, it is our present.
You are invited to commemorate with us the startup of the mill’s operations.

ABOUT THE UNIT
The Puma Unit is Klabin’s largest investment ever and the largest private project in the state of Paraná.
of pulp per year
The capacity to renew itself and a long-term vision that respects its inherent essence are constants that have accompanied Klabin over its long history. The startup of the Puma Unit in the state of Paraná, in March 2016, is one example of this characteristic. With the new plant, Klabin will double its production capacity and become the only company in Brazil that simultaneously offers hardwood pulp (eucalyptus) softwood pulp (pine) and fluff pulp.
The new unit has capacity to produce 1.5 million tons of pulp per year, of which 1.1 million tons is hardwood pulp and 400,000 tons is softwood pulp. A portion of softwood pulp is converted into fluff pulp, which is the only one in the country made from forests planted with pine and processed at an industrial unit designed entirely for this purpose.
The Puma Unit, which generates 270 MW from biomass, makes Klabin self-sufficient in electricity. Of this amount, 120 MW is used to Klabin’s operations, with the surplus power of 150 MW, which is sufficient to power a city of 500,000 people, supplied to Brazil's national grid.
Klabin is Brazil's largest paper producer and exporter and the leading manufacturer of paper and board for packaging, corrugated board packaging, industrial bags and timber in logs. Founded in 1899, it has 15 industrial units in Brazil and one in Argentina. Klabin is organized into four business units: Forestry, Pulp, Paper (paperboard, kraft paper and recycled) and Packaging (corrugated board and industrial bags).
The company management is entirely oriented towards sustainable development in the pursuit of integrated and responsible growth that combines profitability, social development and a commitment to the environment. Klabin has been included in the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the São Paulo Stock Exchange (BM&FBovespa) since 2014. It is also a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact and the Brazilian Pact to Eradicate Slave Labor, and seeks suppliers and business partners that adopt the same values of ethics, transparency and respect for the principles of sustainability.
